We breed and show
Maine Coon Cats in the
Cat Fanciers Association.
We have been actively
showing Maine Coons since 1996 and our first litter was born in July
1999. We specialize in dark red and warm brown tabbies, but sometimes
also have silver tabbies---with and without white markings. We have
recently had solid black and black smoke kittens and look forward to
more of these unusual colors in the near future.
As we
breed on a very small scale, we only occasionally have kittens
available for reservation. When kittens are available, information
will be listed on our kitten page.
Our
cattery is our home in Fairfax, Virginia; our kittens are raised
underfoot. Our kittens usually stay with us until they are between 13
and 16 weeks old, depending on their individual development. We give
them all the time they need with their mothers and siblings, so that
they are really ready to transition to their new homes easily. We make
a serious and ongoing commitment to every kitten born here; at any
time in their life, we are always available to ensure they have a safe
home.
As
small scale hobby breeders, we take very seriously every aspect of
breeding, from animal husbandry to genetics. The fees we charge for
our kittens are to cover, in some small part, veterinary expenses,
supplies, health screenings and showing. We actively show our cats and
kittens, both to evaluate their temperament and also to check the
progress of our breeding program against the written standards for our
breed. We believe the very best show cat is the very best pet--a cat
who has an outgoing affectionate personality is both wonderful in the
show ring and at home.
Our adult cats are
tested for FeLV/FIV, vaccinated against FVCRP and rabies in compliance
with our local jurisdiction and screened for hypertrophic
cardiomyopathy (HCM). Our kittens have the vaccinations appropriate to
their age and development. We are fortunate to be able to work with a
wonderful practice of board certified veterinary cardiologists.
Therefore, we can screen our breeding cats throughout their breeding
careers multiple times. Screening is the best means we have available
but it offers no absolute guarantees against the development of
disease. We are thoroughly committed to screening our cats on an
ongoing basis and willingly share those health clearances and reports.
